Yeah, they did. In fact, that's what started the whole annexation process. Texans began immigrating into Texas because the Mexican government was practically giving land away. However, anyone who moved to Texas could not bring slaves with them and they had to convert to Catholicism. Texans got pissed and revolted in 1836 (I think!). Eventually the U.S. annexed Texas and it became part of the Union. There were other boarder disputes and the Americans provoked a war, the Mexican-American War, eventually winning it.

exactly. Technically, the land above was bought. But when you buy land after defeating the people who live on it in a war, it's the spoils of war, therefore it's stolen. It's like holding a gun to someone's head, giving them 50 cents for their new jacket, and making sure you tell everyone you know that you paid for it.

All true! The Mexicans had abolished slavery in 1829. When the gringos revolted against Mexico in 1836, the constitution of the Republic of Texas specifically legalised slavery.
